TribesSeth Goddin
Piatkus Books
If you do any element of social media, this book is a must. Some great tips on how to build and lead a tribe of people who are interested in what you have to say and do.
The New Rules of Marketing & PRDavid Meerman ScottJohn Wiley & Sons Inc.

A great book, written by an experienced journalist, on how to do 'free' marketing in the 21st Century. Some great hints and tips on how to build a strong social internet marketing presence.

I do, however, disagree with his perspective that the 'old' rules of marketing no longer exist. He seems to be confusing 'communications' with 'marketing'. The 'old' rules do still apply, they just need to be interpreted and actioned in a different way than before.

The book is also written from an American perspective. Quite a bit is relevant in the UK, but some is irrelevant if your business is operating within a limited physical geography.

The Bluffers Guide to Marketing
Graham Harding & Paul Walton
Oval Books 2003

A great little book on some common marketing thoughts. Mostly for Corporate Style marketing. But, it's similar to taking your car in to get serviced: if you can use the right jargon, there is less chance of being hoodwinked by 'marketing/agency speak'. It should only take between 2-3 hours to read.

Sticky Wisdom
?WHAT IF!
Capstone Publishing Limited (A Wiley Company)
A truely inspiring book on creativity. It certainly helped us to understand that creativity is not limited to (and contained in) art & theater studios. We all have a creative side to us - which was alive and well in us as children, but has been restricted by our educational practices - both at school and university. It's great to, finally, be given permission to be creative again.
Eating the Big Fish Adam MorganJohn Wiley & Sons, Inc
A book on how to be a 'challenger brand'. It's the same mindset that's needed by all entrepreneurs - that gutsy determination to take on the 'big boys' and win. It does take effort, commitment and determination & a little bit of a savvy, 'what rules' attitude. Everyone needs some inspiration to keep on going - and this is one of those books that does just that.
The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding
Al Ries & Laura Ries
Harper Collins
Covers off some basic rules of how to go about branding either yourself or your company - a must read if you are either rebranding, or starting up, and need some help on branding. It is USA focussed, but you get the points that they're making.

If you have any books that you'd like to recommend, feel free to get in touch and we'll try include them in our list.
